Kenai river recon

the best times to fish the kenai and kasilof river

The timing of your trip will depend on what kind of fish you’re after

spring

The springtime and beginning of summer bring out aggressive and hungry trout and Dolly Varden (char). These are catch-and-release only, and you can catch them with both fly or spinning gear.

Summer

In May, King Salmon (Chinook) start to arrive in our
rivers, and these brutes are available from mid-May until the end of July. June is great for red (sockeye) salmon, and we fish for these until mid-August.

Fall

As the reds slow down, the Silver (coho) Salmon are making their way upriver. By the end of August, we are in full swing fishing for these acrobatic salmon. Fall is also great for trophy Trout and Dolly!
